Pickle-Toothpaste_9231-l-500x333Getting kids to brush their teeth as often as they should has been a challenge for parents since toothpaste was invented.  Some companies have tried to make brushing more appealing to kids over the years by creating new and different toothpaste flavors.  Here’s a list of some of the strangest flavored toothpaste to be created and marketed to kids.

  • One company to think outside the box in regards to toothpaste flavors was Tanner’s Taste Paste.  Created by pediatric dentist, Janelle Holden, the company’s goal was to make brushing a fun experience for kids.  They developed three flavors, Banilla Bling, which is a mild vanilla flavor, Cha Cha Chocolate, and Blingsicle, which is orange and vanilla ice cream flavored.
  • There’s also Cola flavored toothpaste, although there isn’t actually soda in the toothpaste, so it’s not likely to dissolve your child’s baby teeth, like the experiment we did in elementary school. According to the manufacturer, the flavor comes from the way the toothpaste smells just before you brush with it.
  • For your little chocolate lover (or for the parent who loves her), there’s Oreo cookie flavored toothpaste, which boasts the same cavity protection as any normal flavor of toothpaste.  By far the strangest flavors, are pickle-flavored, bacon-flavored, and cupcake-flavored toothpastes.  Apparently, the pickle-flavored toothpaste tastes more like pickle-flavored candy, and as far as the bacon flavor goes, while real bacon may be incredibly delicious, some trends just go too far.

These may be interesting tricks to get your kids to brush, and we all know what a challenge that can be.  Talk to your Phoenix area dentist about how to promote good oral hygiene habits in your children, and if you’re a new parent, you can find an Arizona infant dentist who can talk to you about what to expect with your baby’s developing teeth.
