Valentine’s Day is a holiday synonymous with candy and sweets. While it is okay to indulge in some Valentine’s Day chocolate, we want to remind everyone to keep their teeth in mind when choosing those candies and treats.
Peppermints, sour candy, and caramels may taste delicious, but these sweets are well known to damage teeth. Sour candy like Warheads or Sour Patch Kids can be acidic to your teeth and eat away at the enamel that protects teeth from bacteria. This is the stuff that causes gingivitis, gum disease and cavities.
Sour candy like Skittles and Starburst can actually be worse for your teeth than just straight chocolate because they have a low pH value, which is also known to ruin enamel.
We recommend that kids and grown ups alike indulge in softer treats like Reese’s peanut butter cups or M&Ms, which are softer on your teeth. If you do choose to indulge make sure you do an extra good job brushing and flossing between your teeth.
We don’t want you to miss out on the holiday spirit, we just want to make sure you’re keeping good care of one of your most prized assets, your teeth!
Now that we have all the boring stuff out of the way. Here are some great activities you can do with your family to make Valentine’s Day extra special. Whether you want to stay at home or paint the town red.
