Spring is upon us once again, which means it’s Easter season, full of chocolate bunnies, multicolored eggs (both of the hardboiled and creme-filled varieties) and Peeps (whatever they happen to be made of). Receiving a big basket of sugary Easter candy has become as much a tradition as hunting for eggs, which means that both you and the kiddos may have been indulging a few more sugary treats recently.
If you live in Arizona, that means something else as well. It means Summer’s just around the corner, when being out and about becomes a little more difficult. Because of that, now’s a great time to see your dentist for a checkup. On top of daily brushing and flossing habits, the American Dental Association recommends that you visit the dentist at least twice a year, and if you have a child with growing baby teeth or permanent teeth, it’s even more important for them to see a pediatric dentist to check for cavities and to make sure that his or her teeth are developing properly.
Those little sugar-coated chocolate eggs are delicious, but they can wreak havoc on teeth already prone to cavities. The Easter Bunny only comes to Phoenix once a year, but the effects of the treats he leaves can last much longer if your child’s teeth are not properly cared for. Talk to your dentist about how to get your kids to brush for the correct amount of time with and anticavity toothpaste, especially since children are more prone to cavities early on. If you’re a new parent with a little one celebrating Easter for the first time this year, talk to an infant dentist about the best times to bring her in for the first visit as well as what to expect as her baby teeth come in.
