The animal kingdom packs some serious bite! While our healthy teeth can bite through just about anything you place in their way – even aunt Carol’s meatloaf – our jaws are simply no match when it comes to some of our four-legged friends. Here’s a quick list of the strongest animal teeth in the world!
Fido is certainly not to be messed with. Those of us unlucky few who have experienced a dog bite know firsthand that our furry friends have tremendous biting power – 325 lbs per square inch on average. The dog’s remarkable bite makes it especially important to keep very young children separated.
The Great White Shark ups the ante considerably, weighing in at 625 lbs per square inch of biting power. This fearsome ocean creature continues to inspire dread among us, perhaps most notably during the summer the movie Jaws was released.
How about the king of the jungle? Weighing in at 650 lbs per square inch, lions actually have a relatively weaker bite as far as big cats go – just don’t tell them we said that. For comparison, tigers have a bite measuring 1,050 lbs per square inch. Perhaps tigers should take the crown!
Goldilocks might have avoided that house altogether if she knew those bears were capable of producing 975 lbs per square inch of raw biting power. You might think twice before cozying up with your teddy bear before bedtime.
The hyena bite is the stuff of legend, measuring a whopping 1,100 lbs per square inch. Although hyenas are considered lowly scavengers, their bite is one of the strongest among mammals and makes them a force to be reckoned with.
Enough dilly dallying – who wields the strongest bite on Earth? Well, that honor belongs to none other than the scaly crocodile. Cousin to the slightly less deadly alligator, these crocs pack an unbelievable 3,700 lbs per square inch.
