You’re used to playing a fine balancing act with the several different responsibilities of getting kids to school, to play dates, to the pediatric dentist, etc. A busy mom is an artist who is able to spin several different plates at once and make it look easy. Kudos to you! Here are some extra tips on how to keep your oral health up to par while keeping you on the go.
Be Prepared
Especially if you’re a new mom, you have a bag full of everything your baby could possibly need with you at all times. You can apply the same principle to your teeth. Toothbrushes, toothpastes and mouthwashes come in travel sizes, so it’s really easy to keep a bag of these items handy wherever you go. Especially handy on road trips, where you’re sure to take many, many bathroom breaks, take your oral hygiene bag with you and get in a quick brushing session.
Tooth-Friendly Snacks and Gum
When brushing is not an option after meals, grab a stick of sugar-free gum, especially one sweetened with xylitol. The act of chewing promotes saliva production, which helps your mouth naturally rinse itself. Studies have also shown that xylitol can actually help rid the mouth of harmful bacteria. Another great option is crunchy fruits and vegetables, like apples and cucumbers. Eating these foods have the same saliva-promoting effects.
Hydration is Key
Drinking plenty of water throughout the day helps keep your teeth clean after meals and snacks. Having a water bottle with you at all times makes the habit pretty simple to stick to, as well. This is a great rule of thumb for everybody during the Arizona summer. Staying hydrated will also help you stay on top of your game throughout the day.
Follow these tips to keep your teeth and gums healthy for the long-term. Also, don’t forget that every member of the family should see the dentist at least once a year. If you or the kids are due for a check-up, give us a call today!
