So you’ve finally settled into your role as a parent. You’ve mastered the sleepless nights and you’re ready for the next step in your child’s development. Well, once your baby reaches anywhere between three and twelve months, it’s time to start the teething process.
What are some signs of teething? If you notice your baby is drooling, gnawing (especially during breastfeeding), having trouble sleeping or refusing food, it’s likely he or she is beginning the teething process. Once you’ve determined your baby has actually started teething, try these ideas to help ease the pain and keep your baby happy and healthy!
Great teething ideas:
Gum Massage: One of the oldest tricks in the book to help your baby throughout the teething process is a good ol’ fashion gum massage. Make sure your hands are clean, and put gentle pressure on the baby’s gums.
Teething Jewelry: This one works great for moms who like to help their baby and look fashionable while doing so. There are tons of places online to find teething necklaces and bracelets for your teething tot to chew on!
Cold Washcloth: Another age old trick is a simple cold, damp washcloth. As simple as it sounds, all you need is a cloth chilled in the refrigerator (not the freezer!) for your little one to chew on. It’s safe, easy, and effective.
Chilled Foods: If your child is ready for solid foods, try using sliced, peeled apples, carrots, sweet peppers, or cucumbers. Anything that’s firm but not too tough to chew. If solid foods aren’t your preferred route, try foods like chilled apple sauce or yogurt.
Distractions and Love: One of the best ways to help your child go through the pains of teething is through a change of scenery and lots of hugs and kisses!
