The team at Kidtastic Dental is expertly to handle sedation dentistry for kids.
It is perhaps no secret that children, much like their parents, can experience debilitating anxiety prior to receiving dental services. Sedation techniques are engineered to address this common issue, soothing delicate nerves and easing the treatment process.
Kidtastic uses a wide range of sedation techniques to care for your child. Here are some of our most common forms,
Nitrous Oxide – Nitrous oxide is perhaps the most popular form of sedation among pediatric dental offices – patients are no doubt familiar with its nickname, ‘laughing gas’. Our knowledgeable team recommends this sedative in cases of mild to moderate anxiety.
Nitrous oxide is administered using a special mask that is worn over the nose. One of the best elements of this sedative is how fast it goes to work – anxiety and fear are quickly washed away. Many of our young patients report their appointments feel shorter from start to finish with the aid of nitrous oxide.
Oral Conscious Sedation – Following closely on the heels of nitrous oxide is oral conscious sedation, considered the second most common form of sedation among pediatric dental offices. Kidtastic similarly recommends this form of sedation in cases of mild to moderate anxiety.
Different from gas sedation, oral conscious sedation requires an oral prescription. This medication is engineered to put your child in a state of complete relaxation. A major benefit of this sedation is it allows doctors the ability to complete more work in less appointments.
IV Sedation – IV sedation is one of the most powerful forms of sedation and is only used in cases of severe anxiety or complex procedures. Many of our patients report they have virtually no memory of their dental work, ideal for more invasive procedures.
As this form of sedation is engineered to allow doctors to perform for a longer period of time, the side effects of IV sedation generally take longer to wear off.
