Back in 2006, then governor Janet Napolitano made the trip out to Queen Creek and designated Schnepf Farms as an “Arizona Treasure.” Touring the farm has since become a fun activity for both children and adults and is a destination for over a quarter of a million people every year. Here’s a look at one of the East Valley’s most fun and educational activities.
Schnepf Farms came into existence when Ray and Thora Schnepf moved to what was then called Rittenhouse. In the late 60’s, Ray Schnepf used the land to grow potatoes for potato chips. Soon, the Schnepf family was farming over 5,000 acres and shipping their produce across the US. During Ray Schnepf’s leadership, the farm began selling produce to visitors stopping by, and the U-pick program came into existence. Today, Mark and Carrie Schnepf and their four children continue the tradition.
The farm also plays host to festivals, weddings, music events and educational programs. Their organized tours include:

  • a guided hay ride and that gives a history of the farm
  • a tour of the Family Farm Museum
  • a lunch consisting of a garden fresh salad, dinner rolls, bottled water and homemade pie.

If you have a tour group consisting of at least 15 people or you’re an educator and would like to bring a school group to the farm, you can sign up to tour the farm by going to their website.
The farm also hosts several holiday events throughout the year, including the Pumpkin and Chili party during October, breakfast with Santa during the Winter Wonderland festival, and many more. You can see a full calendar of annual events at their calendar page.
The beautiful weather is here again, and taking a farm tour at Queen Creek’s Schnepf Farms is a great way to head outdoors and enjoy it.
