Everyone knows that brushing and flossing help keep your teeth clean and white, but how do you keep your teeth healthy and strong? There are lots of different foods you can eat that will help keep your teeth looking and feeling great.
Dairy – Dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt are all great sources of calcium which helps protect teeth against gum disease. Calcium also helps keep your jaw bone healthy and strong. Some of the best sources of calcium include ½ cup of plain yogurt, ½ ounce of cheddar cheese, or a ½ cup of milk.
Sesame Seeds – Usually found on a bun or roll, sesame seeds can help fortify teeth to keep them strong because of their plaque-dissolving powers. Sesame seeds help build tooth enamel and are rich in calcium, helping to keep your jaw bone strong as well. Rich in vitamins like B1, magnesium, iron, and zinc, sesame seeds are a great condiment to help keep you and your teeth healthy and strong.
Proteins – Foods like chicken, beef, and fish are great for keeping teeth strong because they are rich in phosphorus. Combined with calcium, phosphorus helps fortify teeth and bones. Salmon is a great source of protein and vitamin D which is especially great for oral health because it helps the body absorb and effectively use calcium while protecting teeth and gums from diseases.
Fruits – Raw fruits are packed with vitamins that are great for your overall health. Fruits like apples and oranges are great for fortifying teeth because they increase saliva in the mouth which prevents cavity buildup and naturally cleans your mouth by eliminating bacteria that could be harmful and cause tooth decay. Other citrus fruits like strawberries help your body produce collagen which is a vital protein that keeps your gums healthy and strong.
Water – One of the most essential parts of our diets as humans, water is also a great way to keep teeth and gums healthy. Water is hydrating, helps rinse your mouth, and creates saliva – the best and most natural way to keep cavities away.
