The holidays are upon us! That means shopping for gifts, planning big meals and finding ways to keep the kids entertained while they’re home for winter break. If you want to keep them in the holiday spirit (and away from too many video games), here are some crafts and activities that the whole family can enjoy together!
Creative Holiday Crafts
Popcorn and Cranberry Garlands. Now, you can repurpose the leftover popcorn you have from movie night! These garlands can go on the tree, in your doorways, or on the mantle. Have the younger kids count out the fresh cranberries and popcorn pieces, and then take a needle and thread or fishing line, and string them together.
Cardboard Reindeer
- Grab a few cardboard tubes from the used-up paper towel rolls.
- Using construction paper, cut a triangle head and two large and two small ovals for ears.
- Glue the smaller ears inside the larger ones and fold in half. Then, you can glue them in place on the top of the triangle.
- Cut two felt circles for eyes, and glue googly eyes to the circles.. Add pom-pom nose.
- Now that the face is ready, glue the triangle to the top center of the tube.
- Use straws and pipe cleaners to fashion antlers and glue them to the insides of the tube.
Activities for the Whole Family
Take a drive to look at lights. One of the best parts about the Christmas holidays is all the lights! Pack everyone into the car with thermoses filled with hot cocoa and hit the neighborhoods. If you find the right ones, you might even come across a wannabe Clark Griswald who has gone the extra mile to make something spectacular!
Christmas movie night. Once the crafts are done, make some hot cocoa and pull up some classic holiday films on the movie service of your choice and enjoy together. if you need movie suggestions, try It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, or maybe even Nightmare Before Christmas.
