High levels of sugar are known to cause tooth decay. We all know to avoid sugary soda and candy bars but many foods perceived to be healthy secretly pack a saccharine punch. Here are some foods that secretly contain sugar.

Dried Fruit

Dried fruit is often marketed as a healthy snack but many brands add sugar to the final product to make their fruit more appetizing. While some sugar is naturally derived from fruit if you look at the nutritional information of the product you will often find sugar listed as the first ingredient.

Yogurt

Flavored yogurt, which can be found at your local supermarket, can contain up to 7 teaspoons of sugar nearly three times the amount of plain yogurt.

Oatmeal

Cinnabon
Oatmeal is a great source of whole grains, which are essential for a balanced diet but the breakfast dish can also contain up to 14 grams of sugar. Avoid cinnamon sugar and Oreo flavored oatmeal.

Fruit Juice

Drinking your morning glass of orange juice may add 7 teaspoons of sugar to your diet. Cranberry juice in particular often contains a large amount of high fructose corn syrup. A glass of Minute Maid’s Cranberry-Apple-Raspberry contains a whopping 30 g of sugar per serving.

Vitamin Water

One of the biggest tricks ever pulled on the public was convincing us that Vitamin Water had any nutritional value. Despite a snazzy marketing campaign directed towards athletes a bottle of vitamin water can contain up to 32 grams of sugar. Do yourself a favor and switch to regular water.

Salad Dressing

All of the nutrition you gain from eating like a rabbit can be counteracted by dousing your salad with a sugary dressing. Fruity vinaigrettes like raspberry can contain up to 12 grams of sugar per 3 tablespoon serving. Yikes!
