Sedation Dentistry for Kids at Kidtastic

Sedation dentistry offers a safe way for your child to relax or even sleep through dental procedures. We provide several options, including: minimal sedation (laughing gas), moderate sedation (for deeper relaxation), deep sedation (where your child remains conscious but unaware of sensations or anxiety), and general anesthesia (for more complex oral surgeries).

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry allows your pediatric dentist to perform various dental treatments safely and comfortably for children who experience anxiety about dental visits. Some of the key benefits of sedation dentistry include:

  • Complete absence of fear or anxiety throughout treatment

Different Levels of Sedation

Sedation dentistry is carefully regulated and provides three levels of sedation that your child’s dentist can choose from during treatment: mild, moderate, and deep sedation.

Mild Sedation

Anxiolysis, the mildest form of sedation dentistry, is commonly used for children with mild anxiety, longer procedures, or more complex cases. Typically administered orally, mild sedation keeps your child awake or lightly drowsy while allowing them to breathe normally and feel deeply relaxed. Recovery usually takes only a few hours. Another option is nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which provides mild to moderate sedation, helping children remain calm and comfortable throughout treatment.

Moderate Sedation

This level of sedation is ideal for children with moderate dental anxiety or those undergoing longer, more complex procedures. Conscious sedation, typically administered through light IV sedation, allows your child to remain awake while feeling deeply relaxed during the treatment.

Deep Sedation

During deep sedation, patients drift between consciousness and unconsciousness, often having little to no memory of the procedure. They may not respond to commands, even if they briefly wake up at times.
